The 3 Disney Deaths That Hit Us The Hardest

1. The Lion King: Mufasa’s death

Nobody can forget Mufasa’s tragic death as a result of Simba’s “bravery”. Poor little Simba is tricked by his evil uncle, Scar to start a Stampede with his roars. While Simba is stuck in the midst of trouble, Scar hurries back to the Pride Land to inform Mufasa about the chaos. With no hesitation, Mufasa hurries to save his rebellious son from the Stampede.

As Simba is hanging from a tree branch in the Stampede, Mufasa heroically picks him up and puts him on a safe rock, but struggles to save himself from the wildebeests. And as we hopefully wait for Mufasa to find his way back to his son, he climbs the rocks to the very top. But, little did he know that his evil brother is awaiting him on the top of the rocks to end his life once and for all.

“Brother, help me!”

He begs his brother, hopeful that he will be rescued. Although we did see this coming due to minor hints being thrown at us throughout the movie

to Mufasa’s surprise, Scar aggressively grabs his brother’s paws. “Long live the king.” He says, before he lets go and intentionally murders his own brother.

I bet you still remember how painful that moment was, and how horrible it was for Simba to find his father lifeless on the ground, taking the blame for Mufasa’s murder. If you love The Lion King as much as I do, I’m sure you shed a tear every time you’ve watched that scene.

2. Finding Nemo: Coral’s death

I bet you remember the death of Nemo’s mother. As she is peacefully protecting her clownfish eggs alongside Nemo’s father, they spot a barracuda — also known as a threat to their kind. Nemo’s parents try to keep calm in order to save their lives, but Nemo’s mother, Coral is scared for their little babies and makes a rapid move in order to protect them. And just like that, the barracuda attacks Nemo’s family, which results in the death of Coral and Nemo’s hundreds of brothers.

"There's over 400 eggs, odds are one of them is bound to like you!"

Although that little moment at the beginning of the movie upsets me every time I watch it, Nemo and his father Marlin’s close bond makes up for it. It may appear one-sided, but we know deep down that Nemo loves his father just as much.

Due to the trauma Marlin’s experienced in the past, he is overprotective of Nemo and guards him endlessly. But as you may know, despite Marlin’s protection, Nemo still manages to get himself in trouble!

3. Brother Bear: The death of Sitka, and Koda’s mother

Sitka, Kenai and Denahi are three brothers introduced in Disney’s Brother Bear. During Kenai’s coming of age ceremony, the brothers are awarded with animal totems. Kenai’s totem represents a bear, Sitka’s an eagle and Denahi’s is a wolf of wisdom. Kenai is not a big fan of his totem, and shortly after the ceremony, an actual bear "steals" food from the brothers. This angers Kenai and Denahi to the point of aggressively hunting down the bear until they all end up on top of a frozen hill.

As the bear is ready to attack Kenai and Denai, the wiser and older brother Sitka catches up and sacrifices his own life to save his two immature brothers from falling and drowning into the lake. He pulls out his spear and forcefully breaks the ice, which leads to his and the bear’s death. I bet you bawled your eyes out when you saw Sitka's jacket floating in the lake!

I guess what makes this movie even sadder, is the fact that we learn who this bear really was. As you may already know, Kenai is turned into a bear later on as a punishment for attacking the bear earlier. And while Kenai is adapting to the life as a wild animal, he meets a baby bear, Koda.

"I'm not a bear. I hate bears."

Koda and Kenai form a close bond and the movie focuses a lot on their road to where “The Lights Touch the Earth”, so Kenai can turn back into a human again. But, unfortunately, it’s not that simple. It turns out the bear that was hunted down and killed by Kenai and his brothers, was in fact Koda’s mother. Our hearts break for this little baby bear, who has lost his mother and provider due to inhumane actions done by no one but his newfound best friend.
