Destiny seems to play a huge role in Serious Partner (2017), a great K-Drama that will leave you on the edge of your seat until the last episode!
The paths of Noh Ji-Wook (Ji Chang-Wook) and Eun Bong-Hee (Man Ji-Hyun) seem to cross quite often in this show ...
Their first encounter is not exactly fairy tale-like, it is more of a disaster than anything else.
It goes something like this: Bong-Hee is on a train and gets groped by a random perverted passenger, the passenger then blames the groping on the man right next to him and that man is no other that Ji-Wook. Poor Ji-Wook is trying to defend himself but it’s to no vain. Needles to say, their encounter was a very bad first impression!
They coincidentally meet again at a hotel where they both have a meeting with someone. It so happens that Bong-Hee needs to be saved and Ji-Wook comes to the rescue.
And they end up getting drunk together!
When Bon-Hee wakes up in the morning at Ji-Wook’s place, with muddled up memories of the night before, she does the most rational thing at the time and flees his place.
The third time they meet, it is at Ji-Wook’s work place. He is a prosecutor and Bong-Hee becomes his intern. There they become a bit closer since they work side by side day and night.
But one thing Ji-Wook does warn Bong-Hee about is that she should never get in a situation where she will be the prime “suspect” because he won’t be able to help her out. However, as fate has it, Bong-Hee gets involved in a murder scene and as if the world was playing a sick trick on her, she has no alibi.
It seems like she has absolutely no way to prove that her ex-boyfriend, who she found dead on her apartment floor, wasn’t actually killed by her!
Everyone believes it was Bong-Hee and all the clues point to her as well, especially since she would constantly threaten her ex-boyfriend because he cheated on her...
Although Ji-Wook did tell Bong-Hee he wouldn’t be able to help her if she became a suspect, he in fact does end up doing so, even if he ends up putting his work on the line because of it!
Some time passes and Bong-Hee is no longer a suspect however the real killer is still out there and is ready to strike again.
While Ji-Wook gave up his position as a prosecutor and is now a lawyer, which he absolutely despises.
As fate would have it, the two yet again cross paths and this time they work together at Ji-Wook’s new law firm to help fight crimes. Not only that, but they also get to revisit Bong-Hee’s murder case as a new killer appears and all the clues hint that it could potentially be the same person who framed Bong-Hee back then!
The characters all have great chemistry and it is extremely hilarious, but also touches up on serious topics like rape.
The show keeps the audience entertained episode after episode. You won't be able to stop watching once you start!
I recommend this K-dramas to those who love light-hearted crime shows that will get them excited about uncovering murder cases and also having a bit of a laugh!
