After more than a year of waiting, The Boys (2019-Present) is finally back with a brand new season!
The first three episodes of season 2 landed on Amazon Prime just a couple of days ago, on September 4th, and they set a very promising start for yet another great season.
Minor Spoilers Ahead!
The show picks up right where it left off at the end of season one and the war between the Boys, our favourite group of misfits, and the Seven, the oh-so-famous and super-corrupted heroes, is getting more violent and shocking!
While our beloved anti-Superman Homelander (Antony Starr) is busy with his newfound child and his family life, Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) spends time with her past lover at an attempt to remind herself of the normal life she could lead if she wan’t part of the Seven.
And A-Train (Jessie Usher), the super-fast hero is back and he is ready to torture our beloved Starlight (Erin Moriarty), now that he knows the truth about her involvement with the Boys.
"When I was his age I was breaking the sound barrier. He can't even throw a fastball."
But not to worry! Our evil celebrity superheroes still find the time to give us the crazy and outrageous moments The Boys is so famous for.
Get ready to be shocked once again. There will be plenty of action and blood!
Now that the vice President of Vought Madelyin (Elisabeth Shue) is out of the picture, Homelander and the Seven seem even more out of control, but CEO Stan Edgar, played by the magnificent Giancarlo Esposito, is always there to remind them who is in charge. But will our terrible superheroes put up with him or once again rebel for their own selfish reasons?
"We can do whatever we want and no one can stop us. That is a good feeling. A really good feeling.”
And what about the Boys?
They are ready to take down the Seven and nothing will stop them!
Although Hughie (Jack Quaid) wants to take the lead, the group clearly misses Billy Butcher, played by the talented Karl Urban. Thankfully our beloved British leader will show up again in no time!
"Don't you worry. Daddy's home."
While season one was clearly a masterpiece and praised both by fans and critics all over the world, season two is off to an even better start. With just three episodes in, The Boys shows once again how beautifully written and amazingly shot the series is. And how controversial it can always be!
Luckily, we can always count on the Deep, played by Chace Crawford, to lighten up the mood and offer us some very funny scenes. Just know there is a crazy incident with a whale and a very weird drug-induced serenade to his gills involved!
"Your gill is showing. Cover it up. It's disgusting.“
At the same time Stormfront (Aya Cash), the new member of the Seven, lets us reflect on how, nowadays, people-especially women, tend to think of their own gender as more relevant than their capabilities and intellectuality. That clearly hints at the rage of “girl-power” superhero movies of the last few years, such as Captain Marvel (2019), and how they tend to focus on the fact that the protagonists of the films are women, instead of simply showing their strength and powers.
"Life isn't actually a PR strategy. You can say what you think."
Out of the first three episodes, the third and last one released last Friday, was surely the best and most intense one!
The ending of the episode is so shocking, I couldn’t believe what was happening.
And the best part is that all our mean and greedy heroes will be united all together against the Boys for the first time ever.
And now that I already greedily watched the episodes released, I can’t wait for the next ones!
But unfortunately Amazon Prime will release one episode a week from now on and we will be able to watch the finale of season two only on October 9th.
As all fans patiently wait for the next five episodes, reviews are already praising the amazing start of this new season.
The Boys are finally back!
